Redfern Station is the fifth busiest train station in NSW and comprises 12 platforms servicing all directions. Historically, 10 of these platforms have been above ground the stations and contained no access for disabled, limited mobility persons or parents with prams.
TfNSW through the Transport Access Program (TAP) aimed to provide accessibility to 10 of these stations above the ground platforms as well as improve the general amenity of Redfern Station precinct. On platform one, a heritage listed station-masters cottage was clashing with the proposed new lift location, due to geometrical constraints, the position of the lift could not be adjusted and the heritage building required relocation.

Freyssinet Scope

  • Design, supply, installation, and certification of temporary supporting and relocation system.
    • A proprietary temporary shoring system was designed to provide support to the heritage brick building. All items of the system were reusable and alleviated manual handling constraints inside the building.
    • A customized PTFE sliding boot was designed to provide the sliding surface and lateral restraint to the jacks during building transit.
    • Complex geometry was overcome avoiding Sydney Trains assets, the live rail corridor and existing retaining structures.
  • Synchronised jacking of the heritage building to tight tolerances.
  • Interface with Heritage NSW and heritage consultants to ensure the fabric of the building remained intact.
  • No impact on train operations or rail infrastructure.
  • Reinstatement of building after relocation.
