- Principal Contractor performed the major concrete remediation works on the dolphins
- Some heavy lifting works were required for the removal of the box beams from the soffit of the dolphin structures
- Areas of maritime construction works, structural steel fabrication and installation, craneage, diving, coring, wire sawing and hydro demolition
- The site is a High-Risk facility and is exposed to large swells and high winds, whilst there is a high priority on environmental controls due to the Spencer Gulf being of environmental significance.
This project involved the successful remediation of two inner breasting dolphins at the end of a 2.5 km jetty at the Santos processing facility in Port Bonython, approximately 250 km north-northwest of Adelaide. Key works included hydro demolition to remove 160 mm of concrete, replacement of exposed steel reinforcement, and full concrete reinstatement using form and pour techniques.
Critical elements of the project included the design and installation of a complex temporary works structure with integrated lifting capabilities, a temporary fender system, and the replacement of existing soffit steel box beams with new reinforced concrete beams. The structure supported all construction loads, enabling safe and efficient removal and replacement of fenders and major structural components in a challenging marine environment.
