Our approach combines technical excellence, value engineering, and project management to deliver cost-effective, safe, and high-quality outcomes for bridges of all types and scales. Whether it’s a greenfield development or the rehabilitation of existing infrastructure, we offer complete support from concept to completion.

Construction Methods and Capabilities

Freyssinet offers a comprehensive range of bridge and deck construction methods. These include:

  • In-situ concrete and steel deck construction
  • Precast segmental erection techniques
  • Heavy lifting and handling of major structural components

With over 70 years of global experience, we deliver design-and-build solutions covering method selection, equipment provision, installation, post-tensioning, and final finishes. Our proven construction methods are adaptable to the demands of both urban and regional infrastructure projects.

Incremental launching

The incremental launching method involves progressive construction of the bridge deck behind an abutment. Segments equal to or shorter than the span are cast or assembled behind the abutment and then pushed into place using launching equipment.

As each new segment is cast or assembled, it is joined to the previous segment and launched forward using low-friction Iso-glide pads placed on temporary or permanent bearings. This process continues until the full bridge deck is installed.

Steel Bridge Launchings

Steel bridges may also be incrementally launched, either as pre-assembled units or in segments. A launching nose is typically stressed against the first deck segment to reduce bending stresses during advancement, ensuring structural integrity throughout the process.

Freyssinet specialises in multiple precast segmental erection techniques to suit complex bridge construction projects:

  • Balanced Cantilever Erection: Using launching gantries or lifting frames, ideal for long spans and challenging environments.
  • Span-by-Span Erection with Gantries: Enables rapid installation of full spans, suited to viaducts and multi-span structures.
  • Span-by-Span Erection on Props: An efficient, cost-effective method where ground access is available.
  • Precast Girder Erection: Involves straightforward equipment and minimal crews for fast, accurate segment placement.

These methods offer high precision, reduced on-site labour, and fast turnaround times—essential advantages for large-scale and time-sensitive bridge projects.
