The Cross River Rail Southern Area Works (SAW) involves the construction of the southern portal and surrounding infrastructure for Brisbane’s new 10.2 km rail line. Key elements include 5.9km twin tunnels running under the Brisbane River and CBD; with four new underground stations at Boggo Road, Woolloongabba, Albert Street and Roma Street. A new shared pedestrian and cycle bridge which will connect the new Boggo Station to Park Road Station over the rail corridor to the Princess Alexandra Hospital precinct. The project improves transport connectivity, supports surrounding health and education precincts, and promotes sustainable transport options.

Freyssinet Scope

  • Supply of all fork‑to‑fork stay cable components including 19‑strand and 12‑strand configurations.
  • Prefabrication of 16 stay cables:
    • 10 × 19‑strand (over‑blocked wedge design, H1000)
    • 6 × 12‑strand (extrusion swage design, H2000)
  • Installation of all 16 stay cables (craneage by CBGUJV).
  • Stressing of stay cables to design force and anchorage close‑out following approval of stressing results.
  • Contract Variations Included:
    • Supply and tensioning of D50 Freyssibars at pylon bases during installation.
    • Completion of outrigger grouting
