- Design, supply and installation of new access platforms.
- Development of jacking methodology in collaboration with project partners.
- Removal of existing spherical bearings and demolition of grout pads.
- Installation of 32 new bearings at 7 piers and 2 abutments.
- Recasting and curing grout pads beneath new bearings.
- Jacking the bridge by 30mm and safely lowering it back into position.
- Completion of the works within the allocated 7-day shutdown.
- Project handover to BHP ahead of schedule.
BHP engaged Freyssinet Australia to deliver a critical bridge maintenance project with several complex challenges. The works began with the design of new access platforms around the bridge piers, providing safe working areas during construction and permanent platforms for future inspections.
The project also required the replacement of spherical bearings, which had reached premature end-of-life due to increased bridge loadings and updated design standards. Working in collaboration with AECOM, FPC and FITS, Freyssinet developed a tailored jacking methodology that accommodated both the bridge geometry and client constraints.
Despite the complexity of the works and a strict 7-day shutdown window, Freyssinet successfully executed the replacement of 32 bearings across 7 piers and 2 abutments, completing the project 24 hours ahead of schedule and extending the life of this critical infrastructure.
