Freyssinet was engaged to undertake periodic monitoring of the spillway strand anchors at the dam, ensuring the long‑term safety and performance of this critical asset. The spillway contains 56 strand anchors in total—32 installed during the original construction and 24 added during a later strengthening stage. For this monitoring program, 25 anchors were selected, comprising a mix of both original and strengthened units with varied strand counts, diameters and pocket configurations. Access to the anchors on the steep spillway presented a significant challenge, prompting Freyssinet to design an innovative, safe and efficient access methodology. This included the use of custom adaptive stairs on wheeled tracks and lightweight equipment, eliminating the need for mobile plant and enabling rapid evacuation in response to changing water levels or weather events.
