The West Gate Bridge in Melbourne features Demag expansion joints over piers 10 and 15, critical for accommodating structural movement. During a 2021 inspection, the Department of Transport (DOT) identified significant wear and damage on joints at pier 10, causing loud noise under heavy traffic and posing a risk of failure during peak hours. DOT engaged Freyssinet to deliver a turnkey solution, manufacturing and installing new steel components to restore safety and performance.
