The Botany Rail Duplication project upgraded the final 2.9 km of single-track line into Port Botany, boosting freight capacity and efficiency. As part of the works, Freyssinet delivered specialist bridge replacement and lowering solutions at Robey Street, O’Riordan Street, and Southern Cross Drive. Working within tight shutdown windows, Freyssinet’s expertise in heavy lifting, sliding, and post-tensioning ensured the successful installation of new concrete bridges with minimal disruption to NSW traffic and rail operations.

Freyssinet Scope

  • Designed and delivered temporary works, lifting, lowering, and sliding systems.
  • Replaced steel bridges at Robey Street (two-span, four-girder) and O’Riordan Street (single-span, two-girder) with new concrete structures.
  • Carried out post-tensioning and ultra-high-performance fibre-reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) stitch pours (~100 m³).
  • Installed permanent bearings for all three bridges.
  • Lowered the Southern Cross Drive bridge by approx. 1.2 m using synchro-lift jacking equipment.
  • Managed project planning, supervision, and execution within a 5-day shutdown window.
