SOHVAPS Flat Jack

Description:

John Holland is responsible for the excavation and construction of the new underground loading dock and upgrade of the forecourt roadway. This project involved the excavation and construction of a new access road and loading dock under the forecourt & vehicle concourse and raising of the existing road to remove the kerbs. The contract is valued at over $100 million.

Key Aspects:
Freyssinet Australia was involved in this project as a subcontractor. During the excavation, John Holland had to install some transfer beams. In order to redistribute the load and avoid excessive movement, FA had to install flat jacks in the gap underneath the transfer beams. The jacking force was nominated by client’s representative.
The flat jacks were injected with a grout, which meant they are permanently installed. So far, we have installed and injected 38 flat jacks, the diameter varied between 150mm and 750mm.
