Bathurst Shopping Centre Carbon Fibre Strengthening
Description:
During refurbishment of the Bathurst Shopping Centre being carried out by the head contractor, St Hillier’s Construction, it was noticed that the concrete carpark slab soffit which was the concrete slab to the Woolworths Loading Dock was under-strengthened. Significant deflection within the concrete due to the increased tensile stress was noticed.
Freyssinet Australia was engaged by St Hillier’s Construction to apply 1200lm of Sika Carbon Fibre Laminate S1214 to various areas within the Bathurst Shopping Centre Carpark slab and Woolworths Loading Dock slab soffit.
Key Aspects:
Extensive encapsulation was erected for the surface preparation of the concrete by way of grit blasting, as this was carried out in some areas whilst the car park was being utilised by local residents / shoppers.
Most of the work was done over two shifts (day and night) to shorten program.
